Surin is the province that has the largest population of captive elephants in Thailand. Since 1975, to celebrate Bangkok 200 years, elephants began to leave Surin to procure a living, begging in the streets of Bangkok. When the mahouts and owners found out that they can make so much money from begging then more and more elephants left their village and moved to the big city to work.
